The institute has been upgraded into a Centre of Excellence by the Govt. of India , MOLE DGE&T ,New Delhi with World Bank assisted Vocational Training improvement Project during fiscal 2006-07 with an aim to produce multi skilled workforce of world standard, The IMC ,ITI (COE) ,Hirakud has adopted 2 year Process Plant Maintenance sector of training under the scheme. The course pattern comprises of 1st year Broad Base Basic Training(BBBT) consisting of six modules each of 8weeks duration & two generic module .The 2nd year of training comprises of the Advance Module & Specialized Module each of 24 weeks duration. The BBBT module consists of following subjects.

1. BASIC FITTING
2.BASIC TURNING &MACHINING
3.BASIC REFRIGERATION &AIR CONDITIONING
4.BASIC INSTRUMENTION
5.BASIC ELECRICAL ELECTRONIC & COMPUTER
6.BASIC LABORATORY TECHNIQUE

The Advanced Module Training consists following 3 subjects.

1.OPERATOR CHEMICAL PLANT
2.OPERATION & MAINTENANCE OF BOILER & STEAM TURBINE
3.MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE OF PROCESS PLANT
